Termites in Monsoon Season in Arizona

Arizona is a beautiful place to live. The weather is usually amazing and there are amazing sites to see on the weekends. Millions of people love living in the Phoenix area, but the summer can bring about major changes.

Arizona is hot and dry most of the year. This heat keeps bugs from going out and can keep your home safe from termites. During the summer Arizona can experience extreme monsoons. The monsoon season lasts from late June to early September and brings with it amazing rain storms. Sometimes, cities can experience multiple inches of rain in a matter of hours. This rain might ruin your plans for the day, but it can also put your home at risk.

Termites are a major worry for any homeowner. These pesky critters can tunnel into your home and eat the wood within your house. Over time these annoying insects can damage the walls, floors, and even the foundations of your home. This damage can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage. If left unchecked for too long the termites can destroy your home and the property within it. People spend thousands each year repairing termite damage.

Arizona is normally very dry which can limit the growth of termite colonies in the area. While termites are always around they are especially active after a rainstorm. The yearly monsoons bring out termite swarmers. The soil is moist which makes it much easier to break up and dig. The most common termites in the Phoenix area is a digging termite known as the desert subterranean termite. After a rainstorm, these digging termites will immediately start swarming.

Swarming termites can cause major damage to your property, but you probably are wondering how to spot them. After any major rainstorm, you should look for mud tubes and tunnels near your house. You should especially focus on your foundation and any wooden structures on your property. If you see any mud tubes, then you may already have an infestation.

If you suspect you have a termite infestation, then the best thing you can do is call a pest control expert. If you catch an infestation early, then the pest control expert will be able to kill any termites before they can cause any damage.

During the Arizona monsoon season, you must always keep an eye on your home. Look out for mud tunnels regularly, so you can catch termites early.
